It is an alternative procedure to conventional surgery and can be applied to large and medium-sized veins. It consists in occluding the vein with polarised light by inserting a thin, spaghetti like, laser fibber through a tiny incision in the vein. It is an outpatient procedure, carried out under local anaesthesia with sedation, followed by a short and painless recovery period, and does not require taking time off work. Actually, the patient can walk right after the procedure.
